Plunket is New Zealand's largest provider of free support services for the development, health and wellbeing of children under five in New Zealand. The Waikato Area Office looks after New Zealand's fourth largest region - covering 25,000 sq kms - from Te Kauwhata in the North, Raglan in the West, Whangamata/Waihi in the East and Taumarunui in the South.
Plunket sees more than 90% of new borns in New Zealand each year. Plunket offers parenting information and support as well as developmental assessments of your child.
Plunket nurses provide support through home and clinic visits, mobile clinics and PlunketLine, a free telephone advice service for parents. Call 0800 933 922, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Plunket also organises car seat rental schemes, parent groups, parenting education and toy libraries, drop in centres, playgroups and education in schools – most of which are available nationwide and free of charge.
In August 2011Plunket Waikato won the HaloBiz Favourite Waikato Charity Competition which was an online, voted-by-the-public, competition to find the Waikato's Favourite charity. All registered Charity Members of the HaloBiz Network were eligible to compete. The public voted over a four week period; although Plunket Waikato entered after the other competitors, it didn't take long for them to reach the front of the pack - a position they held until crossing the finish line almost four weeks' later.
